Breaking: Commanders’ Pass-Rush Target Signs Record Contract

Even before NFL free agency officially begins next week, the market for non-quarterbacks is soaring through the record roof.

One day Maxx Crosby gets the richest non-quarterback contract in league history, only to be topped Sunday by Myles Garrett rescinding his trade demands and signing with the Cleveland Browns. Garrett is staying in Cleveland for a five-year, $123 million deal that averages a whopping $40 million per season.

The Washington Commanders, who last week released veteran defensive lineman Jonathan Allen, are in the market for an elite pass-rusher. They have already added an offensive weapon in Deebo Samuel, but now need to upgrade the defense in hopes of improving on last season's surprising run to the NFC Championship Game.

The Commanders had been a betting favorite to trade for Garrett, with even multiple first-round draft picks projected as a possible deal.

Now that the future Hall of Famer has essentially blocked himself, do the Commanders turn their attention to Trey Hendrickson? He has been given permission by the Cincinnati Bengals to seek a trade, but is also looking for a new contract averaging around $30 million.

And, who knows, another high-profile pass-rusher has been linked to Washington. How would the Dallas Cowboys' Micah Parsons look in D.C.?

The Commanders have six picks in next month's NFL Draft.
