The South Korean drew the foul from Kepa Arrizabalaga, the Spaniard rushing out to challenge him after he was played through into the Bournemouth box.
Son was at a tight angle and seemed to be heading away from goal, Kepa opting to go to ground, the Spurs forward drawing the contact and going down.
Referee John Brooks did not hesitate in pointing to the spot and Son stepped up to convert, stroking the ball home down the middle after Kepa dived to Son’s right.
Asked his thoughts on the penalty incident, Iraola told the Daily Echo: “I think Son is very smart, I think Son does very well.

“He tries to buy time to Kepa to force a contact and he manages it.
“Kepa gives him the chance to find the contact somehow.
“And even if it's a slight touch or whatever, I was waiting for the refereeing decision because normally VAR doesn't overturn if there is a small contact, it’s whatever the referee decides in the moment.
“He decided a penalty and it has cost us.”
The penalty, with six minutes left to play, drew Spurs level and earned the hosts a point, after the Cherries had led 2-0, thanks to goals from Marcus Tavernier and Evanilson.
