'The team showed a lot of passion' - Marc Cucurella pleased with Chelsea win over Leicester

Marc Cucurella was the hero for Chelsea on Sunday as his 60th-minute goal powered the Blues to a 1-0 victory over visiting Leicester City.

Chelsea were dominant in the match, taking 20 shots compared to Leicester's three (7-3 on target). Those figures echoed the possession statistics as the London club looked for a decisive moment to claim an important three points.

That moment came at the hour mark when Cucurella received a pass from Enzo Fernandez and took his chances against Leicester goalkeeper Mads Hermansen.

"I think Enzo passed me the ball and I see that I have the option to shoot," Cucurella told Sky Sports. "Normally I wouldn't but I tried. We got the three points and we want to fight for the objectives.

"I'm really happy. I think it's a long process, I needed to work really hard in my bad moments. Maybe something I need to improve is being more clinical in the final third."

Not known for his goal-scoring exploits, the left-back boosted his club to a victory that allowed the Blues to leapfrog Manchester City into fourth place in the race for a Champions League berth. Cucurella credited his teammates and the home crowd at Stamford Bridge for pushing through some adversity to secure the result.

"We know that we need to defend with everything and today the team showed a lot of passion," he said.

"In the last minute we showed energy and the fans helped us in our tough moments when we're a bit tired. We defend the same club and we need to stay together. The support is very important when things go not well."
