One of quarterback Jayden Daniels’ favorite targets is coming back for another season with the Washington Commanders.
Veteran tight end Zach Ertz, 34, agreed to a one-year contract with the franchise over the weekend, according to multiple reports.
The deal includes a $6.25 million base salary with incentives that could earn Ertz $9 million.
The three-time Pro Bowler experienced a career resurgence last season, his first with the Commanders. His 66 catches and 654 yards were his highest marks since the 2019 campaign with the Philadelphia Eagles.
Ertz also scored seven touchdowns as he became a key red-zone target for Daniels.
The sure-handed receiver said at season’s end that he would likely return to Washington. He cited the connection with Daniels amid last season’s NFC championship run as a driving factor.
“I feel like we’re scratching the surface as a quarterback and tight end combination. …” Ertz said in January. “I had so much fun this year. I feel rejuvenated; I feel young.”
Ertz ranks sixth in NFL history among tight ends with 775 career receptions. He’ll pass Hall of Famer Shannon Sharpe with another 34 catches next season.
