Charges Against Xavier Worthy Dropped Following Arrest

Kansas City Chiefs wide receiver Xavier Worthy will not be charged by authorities following his arrest in Williamson County, Texas, on Friday night.

Worthy was booked for assault against a family or household member for impeding their breathing or circulation, which is a third-degree felony in the state of Texas. Williamson County District Attorney Shawn Dick told the Austin American-Statesman on Saturday that they will continue to evaluate the case, but won't move forward with a charge.

"After further investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office and further discussion with a third-party witness, Mr. Worthy and his attorneys, this case is being declined at this time pending completion of the investigation by the Williamson County Sheriff's Office," Dick said in an email to the Statesman. "Mr. Worthy and his lawyers are fully cooperating with this investigation."

Worthy is coming off his rookie season with the Chiefs, where he played a role in the team reaching Super Bowl LIX last month. The former Texas Longhorns star hauled in 59 receptions for 638 yards and six touchdowns throughout the regular season and caught two TD's in their championship game loss to the Philadelphia Eagles.

Following the news of the arrest, Worthy's attorneys Sam Bassett and Chip Lewis released a statement to the Statesman calling the allegation "baseless." The Chiefs also released a statement stating that they were aware of the situation and gathering more information.
