The Seattle Seahawks are pretty sparse in terms of key unrestricted free agents, but one of them has just agreed to a new contract ahead of the start of Monday’s “legal tampering” period.
Defensive tackle Jarran Reed, who’s in his second stint with the Seahawks after returning in 2023, has re-signed with the team on a three-year deal worth up to $25 million. ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported the news on Sunday morning.

Reed, a second-round pick back in 2016, was known out of Alabama as a quality run-stuffing defensive tackle. He quickly became a formidable pass rusher as his career progressed, notching 10.5 sacks back in 2018. After one season with the Kansas City Chiefs and a pretty lackluster spell with the Green Bay Packers, Reed returned to Seattle on a two-year deal and recorded seven sacks in 2023. He had 4.5 sacks and 15 quarterback hits (the second-most of his career) in his first season under Mike Macdonald, playing a key part of Seattle’s much-improved defensive line.
Always be wary of initial contract reporting, lest you raise your eyebrows at a three-year, $25 million deal for a 32-year-old Reed. Beyond the salary cap increase, “worth up to” is the key to Schefter’s statement, and we also don’t know Reed’s guaranteed money. It’s just as likely that Reed is on an effective two-year contract with easy outs before a third year.
The only other prominent unrestricted free agent for the Seahawks is linebacker Ernest Jones IV, so he’s the other major story on that front as the new league year begins in a few days.
