'Exceptional' Everton target now has 4x as many G/A as Doucoure, he could be major Moyes…

Everton fans are looking forward to the summer now that relegation is no longer a concern.

David Moyes has come in and done a fine job, with Everton now 16 points clear of the drop zone.

It’s not something Everton fans saw coming, given the struggles under Sean Dyche.

But the Scot came in and has been a breath of fresh air, already taking just one fewer for Everton than Dyche managed.

The club recently confirmed they are looking ahead to the summer now. Everton announced Angus Kinnear will be coming in as the new CEO, and Kevin Thelwell will leave as director of football.

Moyes will receive a healthy transfer budget ahead of the summer.

But that doesn’t mean potential loans and free transfers will be off the agenda.

And it would seem that one player Everton were recently linked with could make for a cracking addition on a free.

It was claimed a day before transfer deadline day that Everton were considering a late move for Josh Brownhill.

In the end, nothing materialised and Everton ended the window with just one signing in Carlos Alcaraz.

But Brownhill’s current contract at Burnley is expiring in a few months.

Scott Parker wants to keep him and a couple of other players whose contracts are up.

But Brownhill may well fancy a change having been at Turf Moor since January 2020 – and he is certainly becoming difficult for Everton to ignore.

Brownhill was on target in Burnley’s victory over Luton Town yesterday, meaning he’s now scored in each of the Clarets’ last three Championship games.

He has been in fine settle for most of the season, and now has 12 goals and four assists to his name from midfield.

Recently, Burnley boss Scott Parker was full of praise for his captain, saying: “

“He’s a driving force in this team, he’s got brilliant box habits and he’s always in and around the right areas.

“He’s got huge quality and he’s now got nine for the season, so he’s been fundamental for us. He is (underrated). He’s an exceptional footballer.”

Brownhill could make decent Abdoulaye Doucoure replacement

It was reported earlier this week that Everton’s deadline to extend Abdoulaye Doucoure’s contract has expired.

Everton could still offer Doucoure a new contract, but the Toffees may not offer the same money he’s on now, and it’s not out of the question he could leave.

Potentially, Brownhill could replace Doucoure.

He’s a player who, like the Frenchman, can perform a number of different midfield roles.

But he clearly offers an attacking threat, having made four times as many goal contributions as Doucoure this season.

There will be a desire this summer, certainly from fans, to see Everton splashing some cash.

But it will also be important for the club to be attentive to those bargains and freebies, and Brownhill surely has to be someone the club consider, especially if that contract extension doesn’t come.
