Report: Liverpool considering move to sign 'superb' Brazilian as new summer shortlist is drawn up

Liverpool look set to be in the market for a new starting centre-forward this summer.

The Reds have been the Premier League’s most lethal scorers in 2024/25, finding the net at least 16 times more than any other team.

Nevertheless, there is clearly a spot open as the central attacking player, with neither Darwin Nunez nor Diogo Jota able to nail down the position.

Nunez is expected to be sold at the end of the season, freeing up some funds for Liverpool to go big on a new number nine.

Alexander Isak has been mentioned as a possible target, but it is likely to take around £150m to prise him away from Newcastle.

As a result, Liverpool may look elsewhere. And according to Give Me Sport, the Reds are considering a move to sign a Brazil international instead.

Liverpool considering Joao Pedro swoop

It remains to be seen exactly the kind of striker Arne Slot is keen on having in his forward line.

Both Nunez and Jota are very different players, while Luis Diaz has also operated centrally. This makes it slightly tricky to forecast who Slot will target in the market.

As per journalist Ben Jacobs for Give Me Sport, Liverpool do in fact see Isak as being a ‘dream signing.’

However, the reason for this is reportedly because his arrival at Anfield is not seen as being especially possible. It’s claimed Newcastle are desperate to keep hold of the Swede and are in no position to have to sell him.

Consequently, Liverpool are said to have begun drawing up an alternative shortlist and are ‘running data’ on potential options.

As part of this, Brighton forward Joao Pedro is reportedly being considered, with the plan to bring in a new number nine said to be a ‘priority’ for the summer window.

How is Pedro doing this season?

Pedro has been linked with Liverpool before and is certainly an interesting player.

The 23-year-old has had a good couple of seasons with Brighton, scoring his eighth goal of the season with a late penalty against Fulham on Saturday.

FA Cup 2 0 1

Alan Shearer has described Pedro as being ‘superb‘ in terms of his hold up play earlier in the season, and the Brazil international does have some shades of Roberto Firmino.

While he is unlikely to be priced similarly to Isak, there has been some suggestions that it could take big money to prise Pedro away from Brighton.

His record of 28 goals in 64 games since joining the Seagulls is indeed impressive, although his tally has been distinctly boosted by penalty kicks.
