Arsenal legend Paul Merson has insisted that he wants to interview David Raya about his positioning after Manchester United's opener at Old Trafford.
The first half was poor from both teams as they failed to fashion any chances of note in a tight and nervy contest at Old Trafford. However, the deadlock was broken on the stroke of half-time as Bruno Fernandes curled in a free-kick from the edge of the penalty box.
Initially, it seemed like Arsenal were beaten solely by a good free-kick but Merson was unimpressed in the Sky Sports studio as they analysed the goal. "I am not a goalkeper but I have seen a lot of free-kicks and it doesn't matter how hard he hits that ball," the former midfielder explained.
"That far inside the post and he is still nowhere near it. He was so far over.
"He can virtually touch the post with his other hand. I would be interested to interview the goalkeeper and see what he thinks, but I haven't seen too many goals go in from free-kicks that far inside the post.
"And him not getting anywhere near it as well, that is why I don't think his positioning was right." While Raya could arguably have been at fault for the opener, he redeemed himself in the second half as United looked to double their lead.
Noussair Mazraoui was denied by a sensational stop by Raya's feet while Joshua Zirkzee was also denied a second goal in as many games by the Spaniard.
