Chelsea are eyeing a place in the top four this season

Chelsea appointed Enzo Maresca as their manager last summer. Prior to his switch to Stamford Bridge, he guided Leicester City to the Championship title and they went up along with Ipswich Town and Southampton.

The Blues have the chance to bolster their ranks again in the next transfer window later this year. In the meantime, they are aiming to get into the top four.

The London outfit have had to juggle European football with their domestic duties this season. They will hope to have more depth in their squad for the next campaign.

Chelsea defensive ranks

Chelsea have been linked with a move for Brighton and Hove Albion goalkeeper Bart Verbruggen this summer. He has been a key player for the Seagulls and at the age of 22, he has a bright future ahead of him in the game and would be a good long-term option.

At full-back, Malo Gusto has enjoyed plenty of game time over the past couple of years and has made 64 appearances in all competitions. On the other side, Marc Cucurella has enjoyed a new lease of life with the Blues under Maresca and is an important asset who likes to get up and down the pitch.

A potential return for Marc Guehi from Crystal Palace has been mentioned. The England international is facing an uncertain future at Selhurst Park and he would be a shrewd addition if he was to arrive through the entrance door.

He was relaxed about his situation when asked last year: “You can’t control any exterior noise. I just focus on my football and giving my best. I want to play as long as possible. If I could play to 40, great. I have stopped trying to figure out where I end up [in my career] because you can get too wrapped up in those things.”

AFC Bournemouth’s Dean Huijsen would partner Guehi in the heart of the backline if Chelsea were to land him. They are said to be keen on the 19-year-old after his impresisve breakthrough into the Cherries’ team.

Chelsea’s midfield and attack

Chelsea have a host of options in the middle of the park such as Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez. The pair are the two strongest players they have in that are and they are still developing.

Cole Palmer has been their main man over recent times and the former Manchester City is under a long-term contract. He will want to keep his momentum going heading into next term and add some more goals and assists.

Maresca said in October last year: "It (Palmer’s performances) is the reason why people pay (to watch football). They want to see that kind of player and we are very happy to have him here."

The Blues are said to be interested in Athletic Bilbao and Borussia Dortmund attacking pair Nico Williams and Karim Adeyemi. They would both be exciting acquisitions at the top end of the pitch and they would give Maresca something different to pick from in attack.

Up front, Nicolas Jackson signed for his current club back in 2023 after catching the eye at Villarreal. He has since scored 26 goals in 68 matches.
