Man United star was mocked by Arsenal fans at Old Trafford, they were 'jeering every touch'

Manchester United didn’t start particularly well against Arsenal during their 1-1 draw at Old Trafford.

The message before kick-off was that Ruben Amorim wanted Manchester United to “survive” Sunday’s clash against Arsenal.

It has been a brutal few weeks in terms of injuries, and United only had two days to recover from Thursday’s draw against Real Sociedad before returning to action.

But Amorim’s side dug deep and arguably should have taken all three points from the clash. Bruno Fernandes starred once again and handed United the lead, and there were several chances to score a winner in the final 10 minutes.

Former Arsenal player Ayden Heaven impressed against his former side, but it was United goalkeeper Andre Onana who was getting jeered by the away fans.

United’s injury crisis has even affected the goalkeeping department with Altay Bayindir and Tom Heaton still unavailable.

It adds even more pressure on Onana to perform, but the 28-year-old suffered a poor start, giving away possession far too easily or putting the ball out of play when going long.

As pointed out by Sky Sports’ Peter Smith, the Arsenal fans were “all over” Onana after he misplaced a few passes early on.

“The Arsenal fans are all over Onana, jeering every touch he has with his feet and cheering when he (more often than not) finds an Arsenal player rather than a United one with his long passes,” Smith said.

A quick glance at Onana’s stats against Arsenal exposes just how poor his passing was against the Gunners.

Andre Onana’s Man United future in doubt

Passing was one of Onana’s biggest strengths before he arrived at United, but he seems to have lost confidence in his passing ability.

Amorim has backed Onana to succeed, but there are a few questions being asked of his future in a United shirt.

Reports in January claimed Amorim wants two new goalkeepers to be signed at United, and there is a chance that the Red Devils dip into the market for a new No.1.

Ineos have already identified Onana’s replacement, with United in the race to sign Joan Garcia.

United fans are running out of patience with Onana, so he needs a strong end to the season in order to keep hold of his spot.
