Arsenal receive new VAR verdict after two penalty appeals vs Man Utd

Arsenal have been told why they did not receive two penalties in their draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford.

The Gunners had to settle for a point as Declan Rice cancelled out Bruno Fernandes' free-kick on the brink of half-time. However, in the second half Arsenal supporters felt hard done by after not receiving two penalties.

First, United defender Ayden Heaven appeared to handball in the penalty area which was checked by VAR, according to the Sky Sports commentary duo Peter Drury and Gary Neville. "VAR has completed a check on that handball enquiry," Drury explained.

"Head onto arm is the verdict." To which Neville unsurprisingly agreed, adding: "It just goes past his hand and he heads it back onto his arm."

Then, Gabriel Magalhaes felt he had been fouled by Diogo Dalot in the area after having his shirt tugged. However, the officials at Stockley Park felt that the centre-back had gone down too easily.

"He is not happy, Gabriel," Neville explained. "He is complaining about being grabbed.

"What VAR have said is that Gabriel throws himself to the floor. Dalot has his arms on him but the defender just dives forward."

Those two verdicts ensured the points were shared and handed Arsenal another hammer blow in their quest for the Premier League title. Mikel Arteta's side side 15 points behind Liverpool in the table with a possible 30 points still available to them.

Liverpool know they need just five wins and a draw from their final nine matches to be crowned Premier League champions.
