The Pittsburgh Steelers enter the NFL offseason with a goal of being an elite contender in the AFC in 2025. In order to accomplish that goal, the Steelers will need to make a few moves.
First up on the to-do list for Pittsburgh will be to figure out its quarterback situation. Justin Fields and Russell Wilson are both free agents and there is no current starter on the roster.
It's possible that the Steelers could simply re-sign Fields or Wilson. They could also go out into free agency or the NFL draft to find a quarterback.
After that, Pittsburgh could use help in multiple other areas.
One of those areas happens to be at wide receiver. The Steelers could use a legitimate No. 2 option behind George Pickens.
With that in mind, they have been linked to an intriguing free agent projected to earn a contract worth around $20 million this offseason.
Tyler Dragon of USA Today has named Pittsburgh as the top potential fit for Tampa Bay Buccaneers star free agent wide receiver Chris Godwin.
"Godwin is a good possession receiver who can keep the chains moving. The veteran pass catcher knows how to play alongside another standout wide receiver. He spent his entire career in Tampa Bay with Mike Evans," Dragon wrote.
"The Steelers need a wide receiver to pair alongside George Pickens. Furthermore, Godwin would be a good mentor for the mercurial wideout. Pickens was Pittsburgh's only wide receiver with over 40 catches last season."
Godwin ended the 2024 season early due to injury. He played in just seven games before the injury occurred.
In those seven games, Godwin racked up 50 receptions for 576 yards and five touchdowns.
Pro Football Focus has listed Godwin's contract projection at a three-year deal worth an average of $20 million per season.
