Man Utd open talks to sign 40m PL striker

Manchester United have opened talks with the representatives of Crystal Palace striker Jean-Philippe Mateta over a summer transfer.

The Red Devils are expected to bolster their frontline ahead of next season and manager Ruben Amorim may want a new centre-forward.

The club could favour someone with Premier League experience, considering Rasmus Hojlund and Joshua Zirkzee have failed to adapt coming from abroad.

Mirror today claim that United have opened talks with the entourage of Mateta over the possibility of a move to Old Trafford.

The same outlet report that the Eagles are expected to demand at least £40 million to part ways with the former Mainz marksman.

Mateta has netted 15 goals for the south London outfit. Eight of those have come after the turn of the year. His form has been terrific.

The Frenchman is open to a bigger challenge away from the Eagles and could be tempted to move to Manchester with the Red Devils.
