Fresh off of a loss in De’Aaron Fox’s homecoming in Sacramento, the San Antonio Spurs play a road game tonight against the Minnesota Timberwolves. The Spurs enter the game with a record of 26-35, while the Timberwolves are 36-29.
San Antonio is 2-8 in their last ten games. Playing without Victor Wembanyama for the rest of the season due to a blood clot in his elbow, the Spurs haven’t gotten consistent performances from their top guns — namely Fox and Devin Vassell.
After averaging 25.0 points per game this season as a member of the Kings, Fox is averaging 19.1 points on 43.0% shooting from the field and only 24.4% shooting from beyond the three-point arc. In nine games since the All-Star break, Vassell is averaging 15.0 points on 41.6% shooting from the field and 31.2% on threes.
The Timberwolves have won four straight games and are currently in the seventh spot in the Western Conference. Minnesota is trying to climb out of the play-in tournament in the West. Currently, they’re a half-game behind the sixth seeded Golden State Warriors.
San Antonio Spurs Injury Update
Charles Bassey is still in street clothes after suffering another knee injury. Since Feb. 3, the backup center has only been able to play in two games.
In Bassey’s place, Bismack Biyombo will continue to get extended minutes at center. Jeremy Sochan and Sandro Mamukelashvili will also see an uptick in minutes at the center spot.
Minnesota Timberwolves Injury Update
The Timberwolves are also dealing with an injured center. Rudy Gobert is questionable for tonight’s game against the Spurs due to a back injury.
Gobert hasn’t been able to play since Feb. 12. On the season, the native of France is averaging 11.0 points, 10.4 rebounds, 1.8 assists and 1.5 blocks in 33.3 minutes per game.
If Gobert isn’t able to play tonight versus San Antonio, Naz Reid would remain in the starting lineup. As a starter, Reid is averaging 18.3 points, 9.0 rebounds, 3.2 assists and 1.3 blocks.
Betting Guide: Spurs at Timberwolves
The Timberwolves are favored by 11.5 points and the over/under is 234 points. The smart money is on the Timberwolves winning by 12 or more points. The Spurs played an uninspired game against the Kings and their energy level has to be in question due to all the road games they’ve played in recent weeks. The Timberwolves, on the other hand, desperately need wins to move up the standings.
