Manchester United 1-1 Arsenal: Post Match Arsenal Player Ratings

Arsenal missed the chance to close the gap to league leaders Liverpool as they rescued a point away to Manchester United on Sunday afternoon.

The result at Old Trafford means Arsenal now sit 15 points behind Liverpool but with a game in hand which they play next weekend when the Merseyside club are in the Carabao Cup final.

Liverpool now need just 16 points in their remaining games to win the league, that is if Arsenal win all of their games.

Today's result optimised much of this season for Arsenal, silly mistakes lead to going a goal down then a lack of attacking urgency and quality makes it hard to find a way back into the game.

It was a superb strike from Declan Rice which salvaged a point for the Gunners who created very little outside of that during the 90 minutes.

Focus now turns to the second legs of the Champions League where Arsenal are all but through following their 7-1 away victory against PSV last week.

Arsenal player ratings

David Raya - 8

The Arsenal keeper was arguably at fault for the Man Utd goal just before half time, his second half performance however allowed Arsenal to get themselves back in the game.

The Spaniard made a terrific save with his feet to keep the score 1-0 when Noussair Mazraoui has his effort denied. Arsenal's keeper then stepped up in the last few minutes to ensure a point when he dived across his goal to deny Bruno Fernandes. Another game where Raya saved his team.

Jurrien Timber - 7

The Dutchman was solid defensively throughout, making a good challenge to deny an effort on goal early in the second half.

Set up the goal for Rice and was tidy in possession as he so often is. On a a day where United threatened going forward it rarely came down his side.

William Saliba - 6

Struggled to deal with Joshua Zirkzee at times in a physical battle and didn't impose himself on the game.

Did the simple part of his game well but other than that had little impact on the game.

Gabriel Magalhães - 6

Similar to his other defenders as a team they gave up too many chances on the day to the opposition, but was safe in possession.

Made a fantastic challenge on Rasmus Højlund to prevent a shot on goal but struggled defensively for larger spells.

Riccardo Calafiori - 4

The Italian struggled throughout the game as Alejandro Garnacho taunted him at Old Trafford on Man Utd's right hand side.

Calafiori was subbed midway through the second half as his starting place in the teams remains unclear with Myles Lewis-Skelly hot on his heels.

Martin Odegaard - 6

Like in most games the Norwegian was Arsenal's creative hub, Man Utd knew this and made a conscious effort to restrict him when possible.

Started the game well with a couple of nice runs and passes but with little help in forward areas it becomes hard for Odegaard to do it all on his own.

Declan Rice - 8

Rice made an impact at both ends of the pitch today first with his goal which was a fantastic strike no goalkeeper would be able to save as it went in off the post.

Down the other end he made a goal saving tackle on Højlund after Arsenal gave the ball away on the edge of the box. Comfortable on the ball and left his mark on this game.

Thomas Partey - 6

Broke play up when United looked to counter but other than that he just kept it ticking for Arsenal.

Little impact going forward for his team being the deepest of a three man midfield.

Ethan Nwaneri - 6

The 18-year-old has been a standout performer for his team in recent months and weeks but struggled against Diogo Dalot on the right today, where he was contained effectively offering little.

He was substituted by Gabriel Martinelli just before the 60-minute mark.

Mikel Merino - 5

Used as the main centre forward from the start again and like he has previously the midfielder looked lost up there.

Arteta's experiment with Merino as a striker might need to stop from this point on as it doesn't seem to work for the player nor the team.

Leandro Trossard - 5

Missed a number of chances on the left today for Arsenal including one he put off target after being teed up by Gabriel in the first half.

Gave away the cheap free-kick Bruno scored from at the end of the half.

Substitutes

Myles Lewis-Skelly - 6

Made life harder for Garnacho when he came on and looked a bigger threat going forward than Calafiori did in the game.

Will be confidant of returning to the starting eleven soon.

Gabriel Martinelli - 6

Offered something different to the Arsenal attack when he was introduced with his energy and pace.

His direct runs towards goal could have caused a threat but he was up against a determined Ayden Heaven.

Kieran Tierney - 6

Was used as almost a left winger when he was introduced to the game with 15 remaining but failed to impose himself on the game in an attacking sense.
