Report: Seahawks expected to reach out to Aaron Rodgers

The Seattle Seahawks need a new quarterback after moving on from Geno Smith, whom you may recall was originally drafted by the New York Jets. Former New York Jets quarterback Sam Darnold is considered to be the top target for Seattle in the free agent market.

May I interest you in another former Jet as Geno’s replacement?

The Athletic’s Dianna Russini reports that Aaron Rodgers, future Hall of Fame quarterback, four-time MVP, Super Bowl champion, and recently ousted Jets starter is on Seattle’s radar.

The Seahawks are expected to talk with Aaron Rodgers about their QB vacancy, per source.

It’s expected that Rodgers will be released by the Jets with a post-June 1 designation to lessen the financial blow. Alternatively, the Seahawks can just trade for him.

After blowing out his Achilles snaps into the 2023 season, Rodgers played all 17 games in 2024 and threw for 28 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. Anyone with working eyes could tell he was not as good as that TD-INT ratio suggested, as the Jets offense struggled and the team plunged to a 5-12 embarrassment.

It should be noted that John Schneider was with the Green Bay Packers organization when Rodgers was selected back in 2005. He was the top personnel aide to Packers general manager Ted Thompson, who was in his first season as Green Bay’s GM after working with the Seahawks under Mike Holmgren. There’s plenty of familiarity between Schneider and Rodgers.

My jaw would hit the floor if the Seahawks actually signed Rodgers.

I ain’t got anything else to add. Fill the comments section with your ayahuasca jokes.

Aaron Rodgers turns 42 in December, by the way.
