‘He was amazing’: Ruben Amorim seriously impressed as one Man Utd player was ‘really complete’ v Arsenal

Manchester United claimed a point in a 1-1 draw against Arsenal but may be a little disappointed to have not grabbed all three.

Arsenal were the visitors to Old Trafford on Sunday afternoon with Manchester United hoping for a big result.

United gave Arsenal plenty of possession but took the lead as Bruno Fernandes fired an inch-perfect free kick beyond David Raya.

Ruben Amorim raved about Bruno as the United captain came up with a moment of serious quality.

Declan Rice rescued a point for Arsenal but United still had a chance to win it with Raya making a stunning save to deny Bruno.

A point was not a bad result for United with Amorim surely impressed with how his side caused problems for the Arsenal back line.

Ruben Amorim on Alejandro Garnacho

One of the key tormentors for United was Alejandro Garnacho.

Garnacho seemed to have the beating of Riccardo Calafiori and caused problems all day long.

The end product can still improve in terms of Garnacho’s decision making, but he did create chances in a strong display.

United fans praised Garnacho for his performance against the Gunners, noting his superb work rate throughout.

Owen Hargreaves even hailed Garnacho as a ‘one-man wrecking crew’ against the Arsenal back line.

Amorim has now joined in, telling Sky Sports that he felt Garnacho turned in a ‘really complete’ performance.

The United boss added that Garnacho was ‘upset’ after being substituted against Real Sociedad but was ‘amazing’ against Arsenal.

Paul Scholes felt that Garnacho was ‘sulking’ upon being brought off but Amorim was happy with his response.

Amorim also felt that playing a low block and hitting Arsenal on the break was the right approach, believing that playing deeper handed United more control of the game.

“It’s also the opponent. The last game in the Champions League was high pressure from PSV, man to man, and they are harder to mark in this way. In the low block, we can control more of the game,” said Amorim.

“We have some good players for the transition. I think Garnacho made a really complete game.

“He was upset last Thursday and today, he was amazing,” he added.

Alejandro Garnacho has a big role to play at Manchester United

Chelsea wanted Garnacho in January with a real belief that United could sell.

Amorim didn’t seem completely sold on the Argentinian back then and Garnacho would count as pure profit under the Premier League’s Profit and Sustainability Rules.

Garnacho showed just why so many United fans want to keep him though, causing major problems for Calafiori.

The 20-year-old can be so frustrating at times but he has pace and electric moments that few in the United squad can match.

Garnacho has looked dangerous on the right side of United’s front three and after Sunday’s performance, we would like to see him stay there.

The temptation to cash in may still be strong this summer with United needing to sell to buy, but as things stand, we think that Garnacho has more than enough talent to play a key role under Amorim.
