New York Jets Reveal ‘Fallback Option’ In QB Hunt

The New York Jets quarterback situation is interesting, with general manager Darren Mougey and head coach Aaron Glenn parting ways with Aaron Rodgers.

That move was seen coming a mile away, and now the franchise must decide who will steer this ship in 2025.

There are several avenues to take, with free agency looming as the "easiest" one. The Jets have the seventh overall pick in the draft, which is a no-man's land of sorts, as they are too low to get a stud and too high to take some of the "lesser" commodities.

But the Jets do have veteran Tyrod Taylor on the roster, as well as Jordan Travis, who is coming back from his nasty leg injury suffered in college.

For ESPN's Rich Cimini, in the Jets' quarterback search, if all else fails in free agency and the draft, Taylor looms as the likely option for New York.

"Predictably, Mougey and Glenn talked up Taylor at the combine," Cimini writes. "After all, he's their only experienced quarterback under contract. The others are 2024 fifth-round pick Jordan Travis and Adrian Martinez, a former UFL standout. Neither has played a down in the NFL. On the surface, Taylor seems like a fallback option, but the Jets are telling people they would be comfortable with him as their opening-day starter. There's virtually no chance of them going into the season with Taylor, Travis and Martinez."

The Jets will consider all their options, and free agency looms as a potential place to acquire their guy.

Justin Fields' name has been popping up a lot lately, along with Russell Wilson and Kirk Cousins. All would be seen as "bridge" players until the Jets can go after the bigger talents in 2026.

The draft is less likely to find a starting-caliber quarterback for the Jets unless they trade up, but we aren't sure if that is in Mougey and Glenn's thoughts.

Either way, the Jets have a host of options in the next couple of weeks, and if all else fails, at least they have Tyrod, right?
