Manchester City are keen on signing the German International attacking midfielder Florian Wirtz at the end of the season.
The 20-year-old has been an exceptional performer for Bayer Leverkusen and he helped them with the title last season. He has established himself as one of the best players in the Bundesliga and he is certainly one of the best young players in the world.
According to Mick Brown via football insider, Manchester City are working behind the scenes to sign the playmaker. It will be interesting to see if they can get the deal done. Wirtz is a world-class talent with huge potential and he could develop into a key player for Manchester City with the right guidance.
They will face competition from Bayern Munich for his signature.
Brown said: “Man City work well in the transfer market with identifying the players they want.
“But they do most of their work behind the scenes and then suddenly the deal is announced.
“So in this case, I think they’ve been talking to his representatives behind the scenes and trying to move forward with an agreement.
“Their recruitment plans at the moment are centred on bringing in young players, like they did in January.
“Wirtz certainly fits in to that, he’s shown in the Champions League that he can perform at the top level.
“He’s a very talented player, so whether he can produce consistently enough to perform in the Premier League is something Man City will be looking for.”
It is no secret that Manchester City need a player like him, especially with the future of Kevin De Bruyne up in the air. The Belgian International has been linked with the move away from Manchester City at the end of the season. The Premier League champions will need to replace him adequately and signing one of the best young players in his position would be a wise decision.
Wirtz could fancy Man City move
The German international could be tempted to move to the Premier League as well and Manchester City will be an attractive destination. They have a track record of competing for major trophies regularly and any player would want to be a part of their project. They have an exceptional squad and a world-class manager at their disposal.
Pep Guardiola has done well to nurture talented young players throughout his career, and he could play a key role in the development of the German midfielder. He could help the youngster fulfil his world-class potential in the coming seasons.
Manchester City have had a disappointing season this year and they are currently fighting for Champions League qualification. They will not want to be in this position next year and they are looking to rebuild the team with top class additions. The Leverkusen midfielder could certainly transform them in the final third, and it remains to be seen whether they can get the deal across the line.
