Seahawks reportedly trading DK Metcalf to Steelers

There has been no shortage of news when it comes to the Seattle Seahawks on Sunday, from the team agreeing to terms with Jarran Reed and Ernest Jones on contract extensions that will keep them with the Hawks, to the report from NFL insider Tom Pelissero of a blockbuster trade that will send DK Metcalf packing.

For those wondering about what kind of haul John Schneider may have received in return from the Pittsburgh Steelers for Metcalf, Adam Schefter of ESPN has the details.

As far as what it will cost the Steelers financially to make Metcalf happy, that answer comes courtesy of a report from Ian Rapoport.

How much the Steelers will owe Metcalf will depend on whether the contract replaces the final year of his 2023 extension, or whether it is an extension that will lengthen his time under contract.

If the final year is being torn up and replaced, he will be under contract for five years at $30M per year, while if it is an extension Pittsburgh will have his services for six years at a total of $168M.

The trade will free up roughly $10M of 2025 cap space for Seattle.

UPDATE:

Tom Pelissero has the answer to the question about whether it’s an extension or replacing the new contract.

DK Metcalf had one year and $18 million left on his old deal. Now he gets a 4-year, $132 million extension -- $33 million per year -- that puts him under contract through 2029 and makes him one of the NFL's highest-paid receivers. https://t.co/ATissmYN9K

So, it’s a four-year extension at $33M per year, for a total of $132M of new money, on top of the $18M Metcalf was already owed for 2025.
