Broncos Make $12 Million Decision on Important Player

As the Denver Broncos look to continue to improve the roster around quarterback Bo Nix, they made a move to the quarterback room.

According to Ian Rapoport of the NFL Network, the Broncos are re-signing backup quarterback Jarrett Stidham. Rapoport is also reporting that Denver is giving Stidham a two-year deal, $12 million deal with $7 million guaranteed.

Last season, Stidham entered training camp in a quarterback competition with Nix and veteran quarterback Zach Wilson.

After a standout preseason, Nix won the starting job and never looked back.

With Nix starting in every game and leading the Broncos to the playoffs, Stidham did appear in three games, but it was considered mop up duty because he never threw a pass.

In Stidham's career, he has started four games and has appeared in 19. The 28-year-old quarterback has a 1-3 starting record and has thrown eight touchdowns to eight interceptions and has a 59.4 completion percentage.

In 2023, Stidham had the best game of his career while playing with the Las Vegas Raiders. He completed 67.6 percent of his passes for 365 yards and three touchdowns as he led the silver and black to beat the San Francisco 49ers.

In March of 2023, Payton explained why he's a big fan of the former Auburn quarterback and why the Broncos signed him the first time.

"We like the player. I think he played well in the two starts he had (in 2023). If you study closely the San Francisco game, he's smart at the line of scrimmage," Payton said, according to CBS.

"There were a couple directions, really, with that position. There were a handful of No. 2s that either I had worked with or we felt comfortable with, but in this case, I think it's a No. 2 (where) his arrow's moving in a direction where we feel like he can become an NFL starter in our league."
