The New York Jets already extended one pending free agent hours before the legal tampering period begins to open up the new year of the 2025 offseason.
What harm will another one bring?
After giving a three-year contract to linebacker Jamien Sherwood to keep him on the roster for the foreseeable future, the Jets now have to decide on what to do with starting right tackle Morgan Moses.
Moses isn't 25 years old like Sherwood. The starting tackle is 34 years old and suffered through multiple different injuries including a MCL sprain, a meniscus issue, and a fracture in his knee throughout the 2024 campaign.
Moses played through pain, though, and put up a successful season back in New York after being traded from Baltimore last offseason. With Moses set to be a free agent, the Jets now have to make a key decision
Do they let a great veteran and tough player leave for the chance to get younger and possibly better at the position?
Throughout his 11-year career, Moses has always been known as a quality right tackle and someone who could play through pain. He did it this season with New York and over the last few years with the Ravens.

Reports out of Florham Park state that the Jets are inclined to try and re-sign Moses before the tampering period opens up on Monday. If they can't, though, Matthew Peart was seen as a potential target according to Zack Rosenblatt of The Athletic.
The priority seems to be Moses and getting a deal done at this point. To do that, though, they'll need to match the tackle's price point and both sides appear to be a part in that regard.
At least right now.
Things can certainly change, but with Sherwood now locked up for the long-term, the next person to think about before free agency begins.
