After five years at the helm of his alma mater, Zach Line is headed back to the NFL.
The 34-year-old Line, who played seven seasons in the NFL, the final three in New Orleans under his new boss Sean Payton, has joined Payton’s Denver Broncos staff as a special teams quality control coach.
The move, reported earlier in the week, was made official when the Broncos announced staff additions on Thursday.
A two-star recruit to SMU after an all-state senior season at Oxford, Line went undrafted, but spent four seasons with the Minnesota Vikings before joining the Saints. He retired on Jan. 15, 2020, and was hired as his alma mater’s head coach within a week.
He guided the Wildcats to four playoff appearances and a 20-28 record overall, culminating in last year’s 7-4 season that included a title in the OAA Red — Oxford’s first title since joining the OAA in 2010, and first league title overall since 2008.
He was named the OAA Red Coach of the Year.
