Perth Glory 3 – 0 Western United

Perth Glory were victorious in a stunning result in front of their home fans, defeating Western United 3-0.

Kelli Brown scored in the first before a red card to Western’s Julia Sardo for a denial of an obvious goalscoring opportunity opened the floodgates for the Glory. Brown scored again before Susan Phonsongkham marked her return to football after a long injury with a penalty goal to seal the match.

Chloe Logarzo and Chloe Lincoln both lined up for Western United.

Newcastle Jets 1 – 0 Sydney FC

Newcastle Jets pulled away from the bottom of the table on the weekend, overcoming Sydney FC 1-0.

Sheridan Gallagher’s first-half goal was the difference between the two sides. While Sydney created a number of opportunities, they weren’t able to find the breakthrough, and the Jets kept their third clean sheet of the season.

Tash Prior started in the heart of defence for Newcastle.

Adelaide United 1 – 0 Central Coast Mariners

Adelaide United maintained their premiership challenge with a 1-0 victory over the Central Coast Mariners.

The Reds opened the scoring early in the second half through the in-form Erin Healy. At this point, Adelaide was well on top, and a second yellow card for the Mariners’ Shay Evans in the 61st minute reinforced that advantage. The Mariners rallied late, however, and peppered Adelaide’s goal in the latter stages of the game. The home side held on to keep a club record seventh clean sheet and walk away with the three points.

Matilda McNamara started the game in her 50th A-League Women’s appearance, while Jessika Nash started for the Mariners.

Wellington Phoenix 2 – 1 Western Sydney Wanderers

A dramatic late comeback ensured that the Wellington Phoenix would end the round only one point away from the top six, defeating the Western Sydney Wanderers 2-1.

When Bronte Trew scored in the first half for the Wanderers, it appeared as though they might have been on track to win a remarkable four in a row. However, a first A-League Women’s goal to Mebae Tanaka, followed by an 86th-minute winner for Olivia Fergusson, sealed the game for the Phoenix.

CommBank Young Matildas Sienna Saveska, Amelia Bennett and Talia Younis played minutes for the Wanderers in this game.

Melbourne Victory 2 – 0 Canberra United

Melbourne Victory took themselves to within two points of Melbourne City with a 2-0 victory over Canberra United.

Victory were the dominant team throughout but had to wait until the 70th minute to find the breakthrough, with Holly Furphy continuing her fantastic form by finding the back of the net. Emily Gielnik sealed the result with a powerful header from a corner.

Gielnik, Alana Murphy and Alex Chidiac all started for Melbourne Victory. Michelle Heyman came off the bench for Canberra in the second half.
