The FA Cup quarter-finals mostly went as expected over the weekend – with one standout shock upset.

Manchester City defeated Aston Villa 2-0 in a largely dominant performance. Second-half goals to Khadija Shaw and Jess Park were enough to see them advance to the semi-finals. Mary Fowler started for City and provided the assist for Shaw’s goal, a stunning through ball from the centre of midfield.

Crystal Palace put up an almighty fight, but Chelsea was too strong in the end, overcoming the WSL relegation battlers 1-0. Lauren James scored the only goal of the game in the second half. Sam Kerr remains unavailable for Chelsea in the latter stages of her ACL rehabilitation.

Liverpool defeated Arsenal 1-0 in the biggest shock of the weekend. The Gunners were unable to create many chances of quality, only having one shot on target – and were punished when they conceded in the 78th minute due to an own goal off goalkeeper Daphne van Domselaar. Teagan Micah was on the bench for the victorious Reds, while Steph Catley, Kyra Cooney-Cross and Caitlin Foord all started for Arsenal.

Kristianstads continued their winning start to the Swedish Cup, defeating Örebro 1-0. Beata Olsson scored the only goal of the match. Remy Siemsen was unavailable for this match, as was Amy Sayer – although Sayer is getting ever closer to a return.

Netherlands

FC Twente had an important victory on the weekend, defeated Feyenoord 4-1. Kayleigh van Dooren, Lynn Groenewegen, Alieke Tuin and Sophie te Brake were the goalscorers. Twente remain in third, only one point from the top, but with a ten-point gap emerging between them and Feyenoord in fourth. Daniela Galic was an unused substitute for Twente.

Denmark

FC Nordsjælland advanced to the Danish Cup semi-finals with a 3-1 victory over Varde. Jaime Perrault scored first before a brace Josefine Funch sealed the result. Winonah Heatley was unavailable for Nordsjælland.
