MENOMONEE FALLS, Wis. (WBAY) - We’re now just 45 days away from the start of the NFL Draft in Green Bay and a local band is celebrating the event with a special song just recorded on Sunday at a studio outside Milwaukee.
At Cherry Pit Studio in Menomonee Falls, a group of childhood friends who now make up the band Doozey are putting their own touch on the Draft.
On Sunday they recorded their new song, “Last One Standing”, and they hope it’ll be a big hit with fans.
“We’ve played at some bigger stages, but nothing to the draft magnitude. So, it’s kind of cool to see that we still get recognized for the work that we put in,” says DeAngelo Harris, the drummer for Doozey.
When they saw the news about the draft coming to Green Bay, they looked to their booking agency. When offered the opportunity, they immediately said yes. That’s when the brainstorming started.
Andy Vandusen, who is the singer, guitarist, and composer for the band and song, says the inspiration comes from perseverance and being able to overcome obstacles, just like players being drafted to the NFL.
“Always try to do whatever you can to be the best one at whatever you’re doing. Growing up, I was always told, ‘There’s going to be someone cooler or better than you. So always strive to keep pushing yourself forward’,” says Vandusen.
By all accounts, it looks like that advice paid off, as the group has made music together for 20 years.
Ryan Patterson, the band’s bassist, says it’s rewarding to see the hard work pay off.
“As musicians, we work really hard and we try to put our music out there as much as we can. Instead of, ‘hey we got this new song, check it out!’ And it’s our friends, family, and our followers finding and hearing it for the first time. Now, this is going to be times 1000,” says Patterson.
But at the end of the day, it’s just three friends doing what they love and feeling grateful to have the opportunity to create a new piece of work for the NFL Draft.
“It makes you look back and just know that, ‘Alright, we are good at our craft. We practiced all this time to do that.’ You feel like you get that extra recognition for like yes, you did what you needed to do,” says Harris.
The band will play their new song for the first time in public on Friday, April 25th at the all new Great North Commons.
