In the span of four days, the Seattle Seahawks released Tyler Lockett, a franchise cornerstone, traded quarterback Geno Smith to the Las Vegas Raiders, and lost their top offensive weapon, DK Metcalf.
While Metcalf requested a trade, Seahawks general manager John Schneider made it seem like he may stay in Seattle. "The thing to understand here is that our responsibility to [owner] Jody Allen, the 12s, first and foremost is doing what's absolutely best for the organization, A, and then B, what's best for the player," Schneider told Seattle Sports Radio.
Hopefully both those things merge and it's an ideal situation. Sometimes that happens, sometimes it doesn't... But worst-case scenario, we have an amazing, explosive, powerful athlete playing receiver for us again in 2025. So we'll see where this goes."

On March 9, the Seahawks pulled the tigger on a trade that sent the 27-year-old wide receiver to the Pittsburgh Steelers in exchange for a 2025 second-round pick. In addition to swapping 2025 picks in the sixth and seventh rounds, the Steelers agreed to sign Metcalf to a five-year, $150 million extension.
After the trade was announced Lockett sent a heartfelt to Metcalf that left Seahawks fans heartbroken. The 32-year-old wrote, "My Dawg!!!! 2019 we became teammates!! 2025 we leave the team together as best friends!!"

Losing Lockett after 10 years in the Seattle and Metcalf just before what would've been his seventh season -- it was a lot for the 12s.
One fan commented, "Crying tears dude i can't do ts." Another person wrote, "." One woman wrote, "I don't have the tools to emotionally cope with this." Another fan added, "Noooooooooooo ."
One person wrote in part, "Seattle is losing two of its greatest warriors, and it hurts more than words can say. DK and Tyler, you weren't just playmakers-you were the heart of this team... "
While Metcalf moves on to Pittsburgh, possibly reuniting with former Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson should he re-sign with the Steelers, Lockett will explore free agency.
