Jung Kwan Jang said it received the Varro E. Tyler Award at the 2025 Natural Products Expo West (NPEW) in Anaheim, California, on March 4.
The award, presented by the American Botanical Council (ABC), acknowledges the company’s contributions to research on ginseng’s potential health benefits.

Jung Kwan Jang received the Varro E. Tyler Award at the 2025 Natural Products Expo West for its contributions to botanical research, particularly in red ginseng’s health benefits.
The ABC is a nonprofit organization comprising scientists and research institutions worldwide. It provides information on natural products, medicinal herbs, dietary supplements, and cosmetics and collaborates with regulatory agencies such as the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA). The Varro E. Tyler Award, named after a former Purdue University dean, is presented annually to institutions and researchers who contribute to botanical science.
“Jung Kwan Jang has continuously invested in research and development (R&D) to study the potential health benefits of red ginseng and other natural materials,” the company said. “Its studies have contributed to the Ministry of Food and Drug Safety (MFDS) recognizing red ginseng for its possible effects on immunity, blood circulation, and fatigue reduction.”
This research includes a 2024 study on red ginseng’s potential role in blood sugar regulation, which led to MFDS recognition. A subsequent clinical study, published in the journal Medicine, suggested that red ginseng may help support blood sugar control in adults with prediabetes.
Jung Kwan Jang has also been expanding its R&D efforts internationally. Since 2013, it has operated an R&D center in Shanghai, China, conducting research and developing products tailored for the local market. In March 2023, the company opened another R&D center near Los Angeles, U.S., to conduct research on ginseng and other natural health ingredients, aiming to develop products tailored to different markets.
"We appreciate this recognition from the ABC, a leading authority in botanical research. This award highlights our continued efforts in scientific research and development,” Jung Kwan Jang R&D Center Director Lee Seung-ho said. “We remain committed to advancing research on health-functional products for the global market."
