100% tackles, 100% aerials: 37-touch United star was an unsung hero vs Arsenal, Amorim will be thrilled–opinion

Manchester United played out a thrilling 1-1 draw against Arsenal in the Premier League on Sunday.

The Red Devils started with a low block against the Gunners at Old Trafford, which was effective in restricting the London side from finding the net.

United eventually broke the deadlock before the half-time interval.

Bruno Fernandes unleashed a superb free-kick beyond the grasp of goalkeeper David Raya. Declan Rice equalised for the Gunners, but United should have won.

Raya made three world-class saves during the second half. William Saliba and Gabriel Magalhaes also made last-ditch challenges on Rasmus Hojlund.

Fernandes was the star of the show with his free-kick. Casemiro was likewise brilliant in midfield. He won 12 duels with five recoveries and four tackles.

Matthijs de Ligt was similarly impressive in the heart of the defence for the Red Devils.

The Dutchman had a slow start to his United career but his form has picked up in recent months. United manager Ruben Amorim will be delighted.

The former Bayern Munich man won 100 percent of his tackles and 100 percent of his aerial duels against Arsenal. He had 37 touches with 19 passes completed.

De Ligt also made six clearances with four recoveries. He had a nervy moment with Casemiro at the start of the encounter, but was solid defensively thereafter.

United take on Real Sociedad in the second leg of the Europa League round of 16 on Thursday. De Ligt will have a huge role to play in the heart of the backline.
