Wayne Rooney has been talking about Newcastle United and their star player, Alexander Isak.
The former Man U player discussing Isak as part of a wider discussion on centre-forwards in the Premier League.
Or more accurately, Wayne Rooney talking about how few quality goalscoring centre-forwards there are in the English top tier.
The one-time England striker telling BBC Sport that Alexander Isak would fit into and improve any Premier League team.
However, Wayne Rooney at the same time pointing out what many others don’t ,when talking about Newcastle’s star man.
Rooney saying that whilst of course all of the other Premier League clubs would love to sign Alexander Isak, “Why would Newcastle United sell him?”
The striker still with over three years left on his Newcastle United deal and the club intending to agree a new and enhanced extended contract with the Sweden international this summer.
Wayne Rooney talking about Alexander Isak and Newcastle United:
“Alexander Isak would fit into any team.
“He has been fantastic over the past couple of years and scored a lot of goals.
“His link-up play and movement is brilliant too.
“He would improve any team in the Premier League.
“But I also think it will be very difficult to get him out of Newcastle.
“Why would they sell him?”
Wayne Rooney also namechecking Ipswich striker Liam Delap.
He is looking an absolute snip, having cost Ipswich an initial £15m, a deal that could see them eventually pay Man City no more than £20m.
Only 22 and with Ipswich seemingly set to be relegated, very likely a bidding war will happen this summer amongst Premier League clubs desperate for a goalscorer, a quality centre-forward.
Liam Delap has scored an impressive 10 Premier League goals and got two assists, which is excellent, considering how poor Ipswich have been and only scored 26 PL goals in total.
Solanke cost Spurs £65m last summer and surely Liam Delap at his age and with such potential, will go for more than that, if/when leaving Ipswich. Which would then beg the question, exactly how much is Alexander Isak’s true valuation???
Wayne Rooney on Liam Delap:
“Liam Delap is someone I looked at for the clubs I’ve been at and he is a fantastic player.
“He is a powerful lad and has a great physique to play the role he does.
“He probably surprised a few people by going to Ipswich but he has scored some great goals.
“Ipswich are struggling in the league, so it is not always that easy for him, and I have seen a few games where he can get frustrated because he is not getting the service.
“But Liam has a massive amount of potential and I am sure he is going to have a fantastic career.
“I can see why the top clubs are being linked with him, but they are all going for the same players, because there is a shortage of number nines.”
