Forest secure a 2-0 win against title rivals Burnley to extend their lead at the top of the Northern Premier Division.

The Reds travelled to Lancashire for their Northern Premier Division clash against Burnley as they returned to action with their first fixture in three weeks.

Head coach Carly Davies made one change to the eleven that faced Wolves in the previous fixture as Millie Chandarana started the league clash.

In a tightly-contested opening 10 minutes, it was Forest that started on the front foot with Sophie Domingo and Chandarana both finding space in the final third, but the visitors couldn’t work a chance of note.

The first sight of goal was for Domingo when Mel Johnson, in space on the right side, found the winger with a cross to the near post, only to see her effort deflect wide of goal.

Burnley had their first chance to open the scoring in Lancashire when a low strike from the edge of the area was dragged wide of Emily Batty’s goal.

Forest were rewarded for their positive start to the league clash, as Charlie Wellings was found in space on the wing following an excellent cross-field ball from Hollie Olding. The Reds’ number 14 fired a cross to Domingo, who slotted home to break the deadlock.

The Reds almost saw their advantage double when Olding’s strike from distance was palmed over the bar by Kirstie Levell and away for a corner kick.

The resulting set piece was whipped into the danger area by Wellings, straight to Freya Thomas to head home past Levell at the near post as Forest entered the interval with a two-goal lead.

In a quieter second period, neither side worked a good opportunity to score with the two teams battling hard for control of possession at Leyland.

Carly Davies made her first substitution of the afternoon when Chandarana made way and Caragh Hamilton entered the action.

Forest thought they had a third when Wellings fired a thunderous strike at goal from distance, only to be denied by the woodwork.

Further changes followed for The Reds in the final 15 minutes as Amy Sims, Holly Manders, Holly Turner and Sophie Haywood were all introduced.

Despite pressure from the Burnley attack late on in the league tie, Forest held onto their two-goal advantage and clean sheet to secure a vital three points on the road.

FULL-TIME: Burnley 0-2 Nottingham Forest
