The Pittsburgh Steelers trading for star wide receiver DK Metcalf has no bearing on the return of Russell Wilson, according to Steelers insider Gerry Dulac. Pittsburgh still hopes to bring back Justin Fields, and on top of that, are pursuing Sam Darnold.
Wilson, who is a free agent tomorrow, has interest from other teams, including the New York Giants. Metcalf is Wilson’s former teammate in Seattle, and that could give Wilson a window to return with a wide receiver he is familiar with from his old days in Seattle.
Wilson feels like the Steelers' Plan B, and maybe even the New York Giants' Plan B after Aaron Rodgers, which leaves him in a tough spot. He has to wait, but if another offer from a team like the Tennessee Titans does pop up, he might have to take that with no sure landing spot.
Wilson’s stats look sterling, but in his last five games, he struggled greatly. The Steelers, at one point, seemed entrenched with Wilson, but after his late-season struggles, it certainly seems that the arrow is now pointing more towards Wilson having a murky future in the NFL and with the Steelers.
