Carabinieri police in Ercolano, in the province of Naples, have arrested a couple on charges of abduction and domestic abuse after they allegedly kidnapped their daughter who had come out as gay, investigative sources said Monday.
The mother and father, aged 47 and 43, do not have a police record.
Their 19-year-old daughter, who was in a relationship with a 20-year-old, had left the family home and was living with a friend after her parents had threatened to set her girlfriend's home on fire, the sources said.
However, her parents, who had installed a GPS tracking device on her phone, went to the friend's house and forced her to come back home with them using violence, according to eye witnesses.
Video surveillance cameras outside the friend's building filmed the scene of the alleged kidnapping, investigative sources said.
When Carabinieri police went to the family home, the teen said she wasn't allowed to leave and that she was abused and threatened by her parents, who wanted her to break up with her girlfriend, investigative sources said.
