Big Ben jokes about coming out of retirement after DK Metcalf route: ‘You kidding me?’

Pittsburgh Steelers legendary quarterback Ben Roethlisberger saw the news the team has traded for DK Metcalf. Roethlisberger, who has joked about coming out of retirement multiple times, quipped in an Instagram story that he has a couple of throws left in him.

Donning a Steelers helmet from his playing days, Roethlisberger sent a message to head coach Mike Tomlin.

“Coach T, are you kidding me? DK Metcalf on one side, GP on the other, Muth working the middle? I might need to throw my hat in the ring. If you’re looking for a guy, I might still have a couple of throws in me.”

Roethlisberger is saying that all in jest, but it makes the Steelers a far more competitive spot when recruiting quarterbacks. If they want to land someone like Sam Darnold or Justin Fields, acquiring Metcalf is fascinating to get that done.

Pittsburgh has tried to retain Fields for weeks, but he is set to hit the open market and decide where to go. It seems the Seattle Seahawks might be Darnold’s favorites, but it is up to Darnold if he reconsiders after the Steelers traded for Metcalf.

Pittsburgh’s next step will be figuring out who has to throw to the talented playmakers. They have the players to surround a quarterback with now, and if they can land the quarterback they want, the team hopes they can make the playoff push as desired.
