Liverpool are currently leading the Premier League by a staggering 15 points, with Arne Slot's team closing in on the title. The Reds extended their lead this weekend after coming from behind to secure a 3-1 win over Southampton, while Arsenal lost ground on their rivals following a 1-1 draw with Manchester United.
With only nine games remaining, Liverpool's position seems unassailable - no team has ever failed to secure the title with such a commanding lead at this stage of the season. For Arsenal to snatch the title from Liverpool, they would need to win all their remaining 10 matches and hope that the Reds lose points equivalent to five losses.
The Reds are set to host Arsenal on May 10, but the title could be decided before then. The earliest Liverpool can be confirmed as champions is April 12, provided they win their next two matches against Everton and Fulham, and the Gunners suffer defeats to Chelsea, Fulham and Everton, followed by a draw with Brentford.
If Arsenal lose their game in hand against Chelsea but match Liverpool's results thereafter, Slot's side can clinch the title with four games to spare when they host Tottenham on April 27. However, if Arsenal win their game in hand and match Liverpool's results, the Reds could lift the trophy on the weekend of May 3/4 when they take on Chelsea.
Liverpool could be crowned Premier League champions with a victory over Arsenal if they extend their lead to at least seven points with only two games remaining. However, the Reds will have to wait until their last home match against Crystal Palace on May 25 to lift the trophy in front of their fans, marking the first time since 1990 that supporters can witness the title celebration live.
The 2020 win was observed behind closed doors due to Covid restrictions. Liverpool's leading goal-scorer Mohamed Salah has expressed his eagerness to clinch the title once more, this time with fanfare.
"The greatest motivation is to win the Premier League, not even the Champions League because I always choose the Champions League," Salah declared. "For seven years I always say Champions League, this is the first year I say the Premier League. I just want to win the Premier League with the city and the fans, and to experience that day and go on a parade in the city is going to be incredible. It's going to be unforgettable because I know how much it means to win the Premier League."
