Nottingham Forest transfer latest as 'talks start' over in-demand striker

Nottingham Forest are said to have “started talks” over a potential summer move for former Chelsea striker Tammy Abraham.

Bolstering head coach Nuno Espirito Santo’s options up front will be a priority for the Reds come the end of the season. Adding a forward has been on the agenda for the past two transfer windows but without success so will be top of the to-do list in a few months’ time.

Forest were credited with an interest in Abraham, who is on loan at AC Milan from Roma, last month and it seems things have progressed since then. They will likely face strong competition for the 27-year-old, however.

According to Caught Offside, the Reds are among a number of clubs to have opened discussions with Abraham’s entourage amid his future in Italy being uncertain. Wolverhampton Wanderers, Newcastle United, Everton and West Ham United are said to have done the same.

The Chelsea academy graduate left Stamford Bridge for Roma for a reported £34 million in 2021. He has made more than 80 league appearances and has scored 26 goals in the league for the Italian outfit.

Abraham joined Milan on loan last August and so far has notched two Serie A goals from 22 run-outs. Caught Offside claim it is “likely” he will return to the Premier League in the summer as that appears to be the “best option” for his career.

Forest will hope that by that point they are planning for a European campaign as Nuno’s team continue to chase a place in next term’s Champions League. They are third in the table with 10 games to go, two points ahead of nearest rivals Chelsea.

Nuno currently has top scorer Chris Wood and Taiwo Awoniyi as his forward options on the books, having been unable to strengthen the Reds’ ranks in January. The latter is having a tough campaign but Wood is enjoying his most prolific Premier League season and has bagged 18 goals to date.
