Samuels had been living in an apartment building in Milan, where neighbors had repeatedly reported him to the police. Between February 23rd and March 6th, his actions led to five separate police interventions.
On the night of the arrest, a woman called the police to report that Samuels was blocking the hallway, preventing her, her husband, and their two young children from entering their home. The family was forced to hide in the basement of the building, with the children reportedly crying in fear. When the police arrived at Samuels' apartment, they found him with loud music playing, alcohol, and an unleashed Cane Corso dog.
The police instructed Samuels to lower the volume, secure the dog, and show his identification. He pretended not to understand Italian and, under the pretense of taking the dog inside, locked himself in his apartment. However, after consulting with his lawyer, he eventually identified himself and was taken to the police station.
This was not Samuels' first run-in with the police. At the end of 2017, also in Milan, the athlete had parked his Porsche Panamera in a disabled parking space. When the rightful owner asked for the space, Samuels got out of the car, insulted the woman, and pounded his fists on the hood of the car a couple of times.
Samuels began his career with the Cleveland Cavaliers in 2010, later playing for EuroLeague teams like Olimpia Milano and Barcelona. In recent years, he has played for clubs in Venezuela, Kosovo, Lebanon, and South Korea.
