Nigerian singer-songwriter and actress Tiwa Savage has been recognised for her outstanding contribution to the entertainment industry.
Last week she received the prestigious Media Icon Award at the 2025 Forbes Africa Women Icon Awards, held at Time Square in Pretoria.
As a renowned artist and advocate for women's empowerment, the recognition is a testament to her tireless efforts to inspire and uplift women around the world.
Speaking exclusively to TshisaLIVE, Tiwa expressed her gratitude and excitement at receiving the accolade.
“I love coming to South Africa. I have been here many times and winning this is amazing because it's not a music award. Being in the presence of iconic women and being recognised as one is such a blessing,” she said.
In celebration of Women's History Month and International Women's Day, Tiwa shared her definition of what makes an iconic woman.
“Being an iconic women means being someone who takes \[up\] challenges, doesn't take no for an answer, goes against the status quo and is able to be inspiring to the next generation, and also just living unapologetically.”
After Wouter Kellerman's Grammy win, his business partner and manager Tholsi Pillay took home the Champion of Entertainment Promotion Award and spoke of how humbled she was to be recognised as a woman who is usually not in the spotlight.
“I am deeply honoured and humbled to receive the 2025 Forbes Woman Africa Champion of Entertainment Award. This recognition is not just for me but for every dedicated individual working behind the scenes to bring creativity and vision to life. In entertainment, the spotlight often shines on the artists but it takes a team to build and sustain a successful career,” she told TshisaLIVE.
