Ravens, OT Ronnie Stanley agree to 3-year, $60 million extension: Source | The Athletic

The Baltimore Ravens and offensive tackle Ronnie Stanley have agreed to a multiyear contract extension, the team announced Saturday.

The new deal is for three years and worth $60 million with $44 million guaranteed, a league source told The Athletic.

One of the top pending free agents, Stanley was expected to draw strong interest from the New England Patriots, Kansas City Chiefs and Washington Commanders if he hit the market.

San Francisco 49ers G Aaron Banks should benefit from the tagging of Chiefs G Trey Smith, and may be this year’s version of Robert Hunt, a solid interior lineman who cashes in big on the open market. Kansas City will likely take a look at him, with Stanley off the market, and the Minnesota Vikings could use help inside as well.

Kansas City Chiefs

The Chiefs are the first time ever to reach five Super Bowls in a six-season, and they’ve come away with three titles in that span. Miller could be a nice veteran addition to an edge rusher group led by 2022 first-round pick George Karlaftis III.

Signing Trey Smith to a long-term deal instead of keeping him on the franchise tag would drop his cap hit pretty significantly. Patrick Mahomes has a whole bunch of money that could be spread out over the remaining years of his deal in the form of his base salary and a roster bonus, and the Chiefs could save as much as $39 million by doing that restructure.

Around the NFL

QB Sam Darnold not expected to re-sign with Vikings | NFL.com

Darnold is not expected to return to the Vikings, who are now focused on other quarterback options they’ve been pursuing in recent weeks, NFL Network Insiders Ian Rapoport, Tom Pelissero and Mike Garafolo reported Saturday, per sources.

The Vikings’ first-round pick J.J. McCarthy (knee) is expected to be cleared to practice this spring after missing his rookie season and could see his time coming in 2025, but Minnesota still wants to add a veteran, Pelissero reports.

Among those options for the Vikings is re-signing veteran Daniel Jones, who is mulling multiple opportunities including that with the Indianapolis Colts, per Rapoport and Pelissero. Aaron Rodgers, who remains under contract with the Jets, is considered a dark-horse candidate to land in Minnesota, per Rapoport.

Sources - Myles Garrett, Browns agree to record contract extension | ESPN

The Cleveland Browns and Myles Garrett have agreed on a record contract extension that averages $40 million per year and includes $123.5 million in guaranteed money, making the star defensive end the highest-paid non-quarterback in NFL history, sources told ESPN.

The Browns announced the four-year extension, which runs through the 2030 season, on Sunday but did not disclose financial terms.

Garrett’s agent, Nicole Lynn of Klutch Sports, and Browns general manager Andrew Berry finalized the deal Sunday, according to sources, ending a standoff that started last month when Garrett requested a trade out of Cleveland.

Chiefs Free Agency: 3 players who could sign “prove-it” deals

Defensive end Dre’Mont Jones

After losing his starting job for the Seattle Seahawks last season, the writing was on the wall for Jones. But despite playing only part-time, he still proved to be a capable pass rusher, logging four sacks in 2024.

Just 28 years old, a fresh start could do him some good — and help him return to the form he had earlier in his career with the Denver Broncos. Teams are always looking for pass-rushing help — and are willing to pay a premium for sacks.

At 6 feet 3 and 281 pounds, Jones has the size and strength to set the edge; he could fit well into defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s defense. If he plays at a high level on a one-year contract in Kansas City, he’s still young enough to parlay that into one last multi-year deal before he hangs them up.

With his 3 year, $45M extension from the #Chiefs, Nick Bolton is now the 5th highest average paid off-ball linebacker in foobtall.

A reported $30M guaranteed also ranks him 5th.
