Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney has come to the defence of one of the Red Devils’ strikers after their 1-1 draw with Arsenal.
The game was set to be a pivotal one for both teams, with United needing the points to fight their way up the table, whilst Arsenal are in second place chasing league leaders Liverpool.
United captain Bruno Fernandes grabbed the lead for The Red Devils as the midfielder drilled home a well placed freekick over a wayward wall on the brink of halftime.
Whilst United did well to hold the lead, Declan Rice drew the two teams level in the 74th minute, sealing a point for both sides.
However, interestingly, Ruben Amorim decided to drop first-choice striker Rasmus Hojlund from the starting lineup in favour of Joshua Zirkzee, with Hojlund entering the game in the 76th minute.
Unfortunately for Hojlund, the occasion marked his 20th appearance without a goal.
However, despite the significant goal drought, club legend Wayne Rooney has spoken if support of the Denmark striker.

Speaking on Match of the Day after the game, Rooney commented: “You know, a striker for Manchester United, when you’re not scoring goals, there’s a lot of pressure, a lot of people talking about you.”
He continued: “Can you do it for Manchester United? I think the best thing to do is simplify it and obviously making the runs into penalty boxes is as easy as it comes – you have to make them runs.
“But simplifying the game, getting the ball, laying it off, getting in the box, getting the ball out wide, getting in the penalty box, putting yourself in the best position to score goals.
“Nine times out of ten you’re relying on your team-mates to give you chances and put the ball in the box or slide balls in behind.
“Maybe he (Rasmus Hojlund) hasn’t been doing that – he hasn’t been getting that service of late. But I’ve got faith in him.
“I think he is a good play and he works hard. I think that’s really important as well. I think he just needs that goal and once he gets it, they’ll all start coming.”
Manchester United now look to the second leg of the Europa League against Real Sociedad after drawing 1-1 in the first leg in Spain.
Hojlund will no doubt be hoping he can end his goalless streak on home soil to take the club through to the next round.
