The Mystics seem poised to make more moves around the 2025 WNBA Draft

The 2025 WNBA Draft will not happen until April 14. Most WNBA teams also haven’t made any significant moves. And for the Washington Mystics, it appears that they have now made all the major moves before that timeframe.

So far, the Mystics appear to be a big player in this draft, whenever it happens. They have the No. 3 pick which they acquired from the Chicago Sky for Ariel Atkins. It seems likely that Washington will simply keep the pick, and pick the best player there along with the No. 4 and No. 6 picks which they already have. However, it’s also possible that Washington could try to move up in this year’s draft to get a … more visible player sooner rather than wait things out over a longer rebuild.

There are another two players who could make the Mystics move in one direction or another. First is Elena Delle Donne. It isn’t clear if she will either re-sign with the Mystics or with another team.

Let’s say she does re-sign with Washington. Then, my hunch — with no evidence — is that the Mystics will try to make another splashy move right before or in Draft Day. Don’t get me wrong. The Mystics are still rebuilding. However, it makes sense that the Mystics would still want to make another trade if Delle Donne returns. That is unlikely.

There is another player who could be moved right before or on Draft Day. That is Brittney Sykes. To this point, I find it difficult to see her traded, in part because she has played for Head Coach Sydney Johnson for the USA Basketball 3X3 women’s team. But I don’t see her as an untradable player given that her contract expires after this season, and Washington seems keen to be remaking themselves over the next few years.

When do you think, and what do you think the Mystics will do around Draft Day besides selecting players? Let us know in the comments below.
