Four things we learnt from Chelsea's 1-0 win over Leicester

Chelsea find themselves back in the top four, after a 1-0 win over Leicester City. While the scoreline may suggest it was a hard-fought encounter, the Blues had very little to worry about.

Leicester registered only three shots throughout the whole game. A cause for concern for Ruud van Nistelrooy, considering the Foxes were up against struggling Robert Sanchez in goal.

The hosts certainly had their fair share of chances, with 20 registered and seven on target. Marc Cucurella was the hero of the hour, netting a lovely low-driven shot past Mads Hermansen.

Cole Palmer's struggles in front of goals continued however - the Englishman in first half had his penalty saved by Hermansen. It was the first senior penalty from Palmer that hadn't found the back of the net.

Enzo Maresca's side fought on and held out for the win over the Foxes. Moises Caicedo showed up with yet another scintillating performance on and off the ball - quite the theme from the Ecuadorian this season.

Chelsea sit two points behind Nottingham Forest in third, with an away trip to Arsenal next up. Meanwhile, Leicester face a visit from Ruben Amorim's Manchester United as they look to navigate out of relegation woes.

Moises Caicedo continues to silence the doubters

The Blues very much have the Ecuadorian to thank in coming out of the clash with a clean sheet. Caicedo's consistency this season arguably still doesn't get enough credit, considering his turnaround from last season's early struggles.

The 23-year-old registered 100% dribble success, 14 passes into the final third and won 10/11 ground duels. A complete brick wall that Leicester quite simply couldn't ever get the better of.

Maresca will have to be wary of his game load and continue to manage his fatigue levels well, ahead of a busy schedule. Chelsea's chances of finishing in the top four would very much plummet if they were to lose Caicedo for a game or two.

Christopher Nkunku's struggles continue to show

It has been a tough season for the Frenchman, who is currently still trying to find his position in the team. The 27-year-old thrived at RB Leipzig as a shadow-striker. However that position doesn't necessarily exist at Chelsea in a side much centered around Cole Palmer at the tip of Chelsea's attacks.

Despite that, Nkunku sits on 19 goal contributions this season. Albeit majority coming in the UEFA Conference League. It is clear to see why Nkunku isn't a typical fit for Maresca's system. The Frenchman struggled to get into goalscoring positions against Leicester, which is another red flag considering his expected quality.

The Frenchman registered just two shots on target in the entirety of the game. While much of that can be put down to tactical fit, Chelsea fans have still been left unimpressed by his lack of ability to create separation and to create chances.

Cole Palmer will be back despite another forgettable display

Don't get it twisted - Cole Palmer has been one of the best players in the world over the past 18 months. Such consistency and output seen from the Englishman was on a ridiculous scale nobody could've imagined. A dip was however, always going to come.

The penalty miss in first half was very fitting of that, however the 22-year-old still produced a fairly solid performance. Palmer completed four dribbles (most of any player), created two chances and registered 3/3 long balls.

For Palmer's standards, it would be classed as a performance to forget. However, that should only go to show how high the standard is for such a young world beater.

Palmer getting back to his usual levels is only a matter of time - however the sooner, the better for Chelsea's top four charge.

Chelsea building winning momentum at the perfect time with players returning

It doesn't come as much surprise when you look at Chelsea's dip in form this season. It coincided with the injuries to Wesley Fofana and Romeo Lavia - two players who are crucial to the balance of Maresca's system.

Fofana made his return against his former club, and followed up with a faultless display which will most certainly please fans and coaching staff involved.

Injuries have been the major root for Chelsea's dip after the 4-3 win over Spurs earlier in season.

However, the win against Copenhagen followed by yesterday's over Leicester will certainly improve the feel-good factor. Especially with Lavia, Noni Madueke and Nicolas Jackson expected to be back on-pitch in early April.
