The American left-back made his Watford debut after joining on loan from Chelsea in January and in doing so became the 200th player to make their first appearance for the first team since the club was taken over in June 2012.
It is a statistic that underlines the high turnover of players under the Italian owner – there have been an average of just over 15 debuts per season since – and while the likes of Almen Abdi and Matej Vydra are widely remembered fondly, others saw their careers at Vicarage Road limited to a sole League Cup or substitute appearance.
That average has been maintained in the current 2024/25 campaign – Wiley is the 15th debutant of the season in all competitions. The highest was 22 in 2013/14 and 2022/23 while there were only six in 2018/19.
