Man Utd have struggled for goals all season and missed big chances in the weekend draw with Arsenal.
Christian Eriksen believes it is down to his Manchester United teammates to ease the burden on Rasmus Hojlund after he made it 20 appearances without a goal over the weekend.
Hojlund was named on the bench as United drew 1-1 with Arsenal on Sunday afternoon and squandered an excellent opportunity to win the game for his side when he gathered the ball on the edge of the box, only to be punished for a poor heavy touch that allowed Declan Rice to recover the ball.
The 22-year-old has scored just seven goals in 37 appearances this season and has only actually scored in five separate matches, after he netted braces against both Bodo/Glimt and Viktoria Plzen. It will be over three months since he last scored a goal when United host Real Sociedad in their crucial Europa League last 16 second-leg later this week. An improvement is clearly needed, though compatriot Eriksen believes it is down to others to support the striker.
Christian Eriksen names player who should score more goals
Rasmus Hojlund is expected to lead the line when Manchester United host Real Sociedad on Thursday night as they go in search of a win to keep their Champions League qualification hopes alive. The Danish forward could do with embarking on the same impressive purple patch he had during his debut season, though Christian Eriksen believes it is down to others to make that happen.
Hojlund is the obvious candidate to improve, but Eriksen also takes some of the responsibility and believes he should offer more of an attacking threat himself. The 33-year-old has netted four goals across all competitions this season, with two in the Europa League and a brace against Barnsley in the League Cup. He hasn’t scored since Ruben Amorim took charge of the club in November.
"There’s a lot of players on the pitch, me included, that should score some more goals, it’s not him," he told reporters after the Arsenal draw. "But he’s a striker, he lives for the goals, and tries to score goals. He’s in these situations [with getting chances today], now it’s about getting the belief of scoring, but he’s a hard working guy who tries his best and wants his best for the team. At some point it will click and it will go the other way."
