Real Madrid enter transfer race for Tottenham Hotspur target Dean Huijsen
Tottenham Hotspur’s season has largely been ravaged by a massive injury crisis, though with the team alive in the Europa League and still fighting to finish in the Premier League table as high as possible, the Hotspur Way chiefs needed to strengthen the squad during the winter transfer window.
Spurs focused mainly on addressing the defensive and attacking areas of the pitch, adding the likes of Antonin Kinsky, Kevin Danso and Mathys Tel to Ange Postecoglou’s roster. Now, the club have started planning for the summer transfer window after an extremely underwhelming season, seemingly setting their sights on further defensive reinforcements.
Tottenham are reportedly interested in signing Bournemouth defender Dean Huijsen. They are set to aggressively push for his signature in the summer as part of building their long-term strategy at White Hart Lane.
Dean Huijsen has won many admirers since his move to the Premier League from Serie A last summer. The centre-back has enjoyed a rise in stature after swapping Juventus for Bournemouth. The Spain youth international has been one of Bournemouth’s standout players this season, with Andoni Iraola’s side firmly in the mix for European football.
Dean Huijsen has emerged as a transfer target for Tottenham
The youngster has made 22 appearances in the Premier League, including a strong performance in the 2-2 draw with Tottenham on Sunday. He has also chipped in with two goals. Huijsen’s impressive performances have not gone unnoticed, with some European bigwigs monitoring his progress at the Vitality Stadium.
According to a report from talkSPORT, Huijsen has emerged as a ‘major target’ for Real Madrid. The defender has a contract with Bournemouth until 2030; however, it contains a £50m release clause which is set to come into effect this summer.
Given the growing interest, the Cherries want to tie the Amsterdam-born talent to a new deal and increase his release clause. The Bournemouth chiefs accept the defender’s current situation and realise that he is likely to leave at the end of the season.
Spurs faces an uphill task to land Dean Huijsen after Real Madrid’s entry into the mix for his signature
Real Madrid are eyeing defensive reinforcements ahead of next season following an injury-hit campaign which has seen stars David Alaba, Eder Militao, Antonio Rudiger and Dani Carvajal all miss action. Los Blancos’ interest in signing Huijsen during the summer transfer window is a seismic blow for Ange Postecoglou’s Tottenham.
At 19, Huijsen does suit Daniel Levy’s transfer policy from recent years, and he fits the profile of a centre-back who is technically astute and tactically strong with a good turn of pace to thrive in Tottenham’s defensive line under Big Ange. Given Spurs need more options at the back, especially after Micky Van de Ven and Cristian Romero’s injury-ravaged campaigns, combined with Ben Davies expected to leave the club on a free transfer in June, the Bournemouth star would be an ideal signing.
