'They recognise the journey' - Woolfenden praises 'top' support after Palace defeat

The Blues fell to another defeat on Saturday afternoon, having been edged out by Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park thanks to Ismaila Sarr’s late strike.

As a result, Town still sit 18th in the table and remain the only side in the top four tiers of English football who are yet to win a league match in 2025.

That being said, the supporters have always made sure to cheer and applaud the Ipswich players off the pitch, having done that in South London on Saturday afternoon.

Woolfenden is incredibly grateful to have their backing, arguing that the effort his side have put in on the pitch throughout this season has played a big part as they continue to compete in one of the toughest divisions in world football.

“The fans have been top all season,” he said after the defeat to the Eagles. “There have been moments where it’s been difficult, but I think they do recognise the journey that we’ve been on.

“I think they recognise that it was always going to be a tough season, but to be fair, I think they can be proud of the team that goes out there every week, regardless of what the result is.

“There are 11 boys out there, whoever’s on the bench ready to come on, the five subs.

"There are always 16 players out there that give 110% for the badge and everything this club represents.

“I think that goes a long way in why the support has been so good this season.”

Ipswich are still one of the favourites to be relegated to the Championship this season, with Wolves continuing to pick up positive results heading into the run-in.

However, Woolfenden has claimed that it has ‘never been a conversation’ in the dressing room, with confidence a key factor as they look to improve their form.

“It’s just about belief, I think,” the 26-year-old explained. “You’ve just got to keep believing, plugging away and see what happens.

“Over the last two seasons, we’ve never sat there and focused on anything – whether it be promotion, relegation or massive games.

“We just take it a step at a time, a training session a day, and I think that’s why so many of us have improved over the last three years.

“We’re just taking it game-by-game and applying ourselves the best way we can, then going from there.”
