Manchester United’s head coach Ruben Amorim could get a massive boost, with routine starter Manuel Ugarte nearing a return to the pitch.
The Uruguayan has been absent since United’s disappointing loss to Fulham in the FA Cup where they were knocked out on penalties.
Since then Ugarte has been in the treatment room alongside fellow midfielder Toby Collyer and Kobbie Mainoo.
As such, Amorim had to rely on a veteran pairing in the middle of the pitch against Arsenal last night, fielding Casemiro and Christian Eriksen in the centre.
However, in a recent interview reported on Manchester United’s official website, the Portuguese manager has given hope for an imminent Ugarte return.
Discussing the squad selection for the upcoming Europa League second-leg fixture against Real Sociedad, Amorim commented: “Maybe Ugarte, I don’t know, we’ll see.”
This was backed up in a separate interview where Amorim also said: “I think Manu [Manuel Ugarte] will return.”
With Amorim being consistent in his hope to have Ugarte back in rotation this week, it’s certainly looking likely that the Uruguayan will play a part in the upcoming Europa League clash with Real Sociedad.
The first leg gave all to play for with the game ending in a 1-1 draw, with the second outing set for United home soil at Old Trafford on Thursday 13th March 2025.
Success in the Europa League is vital, with the tournament now being United’s final chance for European football next season.
As such Amorim will be hoping to have as many of his injured stars back in the fray as soon as possible to help survive another round.
