Romano Hints At Big Stumbling Block As West Ham Plot To Bring Ex-Chelsea Star Back To The Premier League

AC Milan will have the final say on the future of West Ham target Tammy Abraham, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

The former Chelsea player has been linked with a return to England when his loan at the San Siro ends this summer, with the Hammers, Everton and Newcastle all touted as potential destinations. However, when responding to a question about the striker in his GiveMeSport newsletter, Romano said:

“It’s a possibility [to join a Premier League club], but [it] all depends on Milan now. They must decide whether they want to keep him from Roma or let him go back to the club, and it will be up to the new director they’re about to appoint soon.”

When Abraham secured a temporary switch to Milan, it was reported that no option to buy was included in the agreement. Romano’s remarks suggest otherwise.

Abraham has not been in great form

It’s fair to say that the 27-year-old hasn’t had the best of times in Milan. He has found the back of the net just twice in 23 league games, although he has scored 6 goals in other competitions as well.

The main issue for Abraham has been a lack of starts. He has been mostly used as a substitute by both his managers this campaign: Paulo Fonseca and Sergio Conceicao.

West Ham will be in the market for a striker this summer

Even if Abraham doesn’t end up making the switch to the London Stadium, the club will be keen to secure the services of No.9, regardless.

Head coach Graham Potter needs more options. Evan Ferguson could return to Brighton following his loan spell, while the future of Niclas Fullkrug is also uncertain.

There have been reports suggesting that the club are fans of Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike but his asking price may prove to be too high. Alternatives such as Lille’s Jonathan David (who is available on a free transfer) and Strasbourg’s Emanuel Emegha could be pursued instead.
