Enzo Maresca aims'PlayStation'dig at Chelsea fans after unconvincing Leicester win

Enzo Maresca is frustrated with Chelsea fan complaints

Enzo Maresca has demanded Chelsea fans to stop expecting ‘PlayStation’ football following their win against Leicester.

The Blues just about squeezed past Ruud van Nistelrooy’s struggling side on Sunday. They struggled to break down the Foxes, with Marc Cucurella’s second-half goal securing three points.

Despite the victory, there were murmurs of discontent from the Stamford Bridge faithful about Chelsea’s style of play. But Maresca has hit back by suggesting that the clash was always going to be tricky but was proud of his side for getting over the line.

Speaking in his post-match press conference, the Italian said: "This guy [points to a Leicester journalist] was with me last season at Leicester, it happened exactly the same. The people have to understand this is our way, our style and this is the way we are going to play. When a team creates the amount of chances we created today, you have to be happy. It's not easy.

"Leicester, until minute 83, they were 0-0 against Arsenal; the same thing happened against City. If you think football is just a PlayStation and you win easy, no way - every game is difficult. The way the players have done today is fantastic.

"We need our fans. On my Instagram, I said two days ago, our Champions League target will be with our fans supporting us and especially when you play at home. We need them behind the players with the spirit they showed today."

Chelsea now sit fourth in the table with a two-point advantage over Manchester City heading into the final ten games of the season. Their next league game pits them against London rivals Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium next weekend.

Before that, they face a decisive showdown with Danish side Copenhagen in the Europa Conference League. Chelsea hold a 2-1 advantage heading into the second-leg at Stamford Bridge on Thursday.

And Maresca has suggested that the home support has a huge role to play once again. He added: "Absolutely. And it's such a nice feeling when we can feel the fans in behind.

“It's something the players mention after the game, 'Did you hear how good the fans were?', they mention between them. It's so good. We need the fans. We need the fans. We need the fans."

Should Chelsea progress, they will take on either Molde or Legia Warsaw in the next round of the competition.
